Spotted on the interstate

About the time that Tukes balanced his bear on top of his head during our drive home this past Friday, we spotted this Airstream camper headed down the interstate ahead of us.

Many thanks to the professor for catching up with it and then conveniently positioning us next to it so that I could snap these photos!

Made of shiny aluminum, these lightweight campers are known for their distinctive rounded bodies; a design that originated in the 1930's.

Airstream is the oldest company in the recreational vehicle industry.
Yes, they are the original!

Classic aluminum Airstream camper.
Designed by Hawley Bowlus in the 1930's.
Incidentally, Bowlus was also the chief designer for Charles Lindbergh's airplane, the Spirit of St. Louis.
Manufactured by Airstream in Jackson Center, Ohio.

For one girl's charming account of vacationing in an Airstream go here.
