At the lake

It has been blazing hot; the heat hangs and penetrates. Stifling. Something clicked a few days ago, we finally came to our senses... today we headed for the lake.

Not that it's any cooler there, but at least there are breezes, shade, and, best of all, water.

It was just a bunch of mamas and babies, with some chicken salad, hot dogs, and enough fresh fruit to open a produce stand.

We kicked off our sandals, spread our towels and blankets...

and made for the water with our floats...

and the sandy beach with our shovels and pails.

Poor Tukes, he took a fully submerged nosedive into the water. My fearless waterbaby is now not quite so fearless! And, Boo, my tentative water guy, turned into a little fish!

Don't you love the whimsy that a vacation retreat invites?

Yes, that is a claw-footed bathtub turned settee!

After five hours of sun, water, and sand we had a gaggle of tired children and a lakefront strewn with summer gear. A wonderful time was had by all. We'll sleep good tonight!
