I'm thinking of all things blueberry these days so it seems appropriate to share one of our favorite books with you.
Peter in Blueberry Land by Elsa Beskow never ceases to enchant and delight. Born in 1874, the Swedish author and illustrator of children's books has established herself among the classics for decades.
This story was first published in 1901. Peter, a young boy, ventures into the woods to pick two baskets full of berries, one of blue blueberries and one of red cranberries for his mother's birthday present.
Poor Peter cannot find any berries, but then he encounters the King of Blueberry Land who shows him the berries and treats him to a day of fun and adventure.
The illustrations are charming and colorful, the story is magical and delightful. The boys and I agree that everyone, young and young at heart, should meet Peter and pay a visit to Blueberry Land.
