Where We Stayed

The Arizona Biltmore, known as the Jewel of the Desert, was our destination in Phoenix. What a thrill that the professor's conference was held there; what a delight that a great group conference rate allowed us to affordably stay there. The hotel is an architectural masterpiece... we enjoyed it immensely.

The Arizona Biltmore opened in 1929 and is the only existing hotel in the world with a Frank Lloyd Wright-influenced design -- specifically this design-style uses geometric shapes to create organic structures that blend in with the natural surroundings. It was designed by architect Albert Chase McArthur, a young student of Wright. Wright was heavily influential in guiding the hotel's design, in fact he is often falsely credited with designing it.

The hotel and resort have been impeccably maintained over the years, playing host to a score of celebrities and heads of state. President and Nancy Reagan honeymooned here. What a treat for us to experience it as well!
