Week's Ending

Last weekend the professor and the Boo sought manly adventures at the annual father/son campout. Together they caught Boo's first two fish, went inner-tubing in the creek, and pitched their tent in a bed of poison ivy. There were marshmallows and hotdogs, a campfire and a tire swing, a late night and an early morning, all with the company of five dads and ten little boys. They had a big time. Boo came home glowing; the professor came home sore.

I've been humbled recently in realizing that despite all of my motherly nurturing and training I cannot show the boys how to be good and noble men. Oh, I can pray for them and encourage them toward Godly manhood, and await it expectantly, but I can't show them. The professor is a good, noble, and humble man, he is showing them... I am thankful.

This week Boo participated in a week-long arts and sports camp hosted by our church. He happily filled his mornings with painting and basketball drills. I love the color and whimsy of his artwork {above}.

Watching boys and girls enjoy creativity and movement this week has made me smile. Watching blissful, little ballerinas dance in a circle this morning brought tears to my eyes.

Other highlights this week...
Backyard sprinkler fun and a trip to the pool.
After careful saving and planning we bought a new-to-us micro-van. I like it.
Another lost tooth.
A dinner date savored.
Pistachio and tiramisu gelato.

And because this is real life, some of the lowlights...
Humbling parenting moments. Too many of them.
A forgotten appointment.
Sour milk, tough chicken, gagging and vomiting dramatics over a green bean.
Muddy footprints on a clean kitchen floor.
The same muddy footprints in a new-to-us car.

Last but not least, Tukes was here... bouncy balls lodged in the Luxo lamp.
I love finding the random little marks of his presence.
