His first model

I should not have been surprised when the professor walked into the house on Saturday afternoon with a World War 2 model airplane kit in hand. He spent his childhood assembling a fleet of his own.

Yesterday afternoon he and our first born settled down at the dining room table with it; a father introducing his son to a new hobby.

Tukes napped. I sat on the couch, embroidery in hand, and observed from a distance. Boo was full of eagerness and questions. The professor was steady and gentle, quiet and encouraging.

Together they planned and decided how to paint and assemble it. Boo wants to leave the landing gear up... so that when it's finished they can hang it from the ceiling in his room. Then they started working on it, together.
