Coastal Weekend

Our time at the bay was a weekend filled with sunshine and breezes and blue skies. I loved seeing the early morning sunlight shining through our room's sheer curtains.

On Saturday morning, right after breakfast, all eight of us mounted bicycles and pedaled along the point. Yes, we looked a little like the von Trapp family and should have been singing Do Re Mi. It was a fun and scenic adventure for everyone, save Tukes who preferred to smile and scream alternately from his place in the baby bicycle seat.

A cold front blew through right before we arrived making the water choppy and rough. That didn't stop Boo and the professor from kayaking. Boo tells me that it's his favorite sport.

Late Saturday afternoon, when energy was dwindling, the guys found some time to watch a bit of college football. That's my man!

Here is Julep Point at sunset on Saturday evening. A lucky bride and groom had this incredible backdrop for their wedding reception. We ate dinner around the fire pits not far away while listening to the live music floating through the night air.

Sunday afternoon found us visiting a War World II era battleship and submarine.

Contrary to the signage there was a lot of climbing involved. What possessed me to wear a skirt?

The anchor chain that Tukes literally had to climb over.

The boys enjoyed all of it. The submarine was especially a hit. Tukes liked the bunked sleeping berths, from which I had to bodily remove him when it was time to return to the deck above.

And after so much adventure, activity, and exploring we were tired and happy and ready to come home.

I've been laundering and cleaning and cooking today... essentially trying to catch up. Tomorrow I'll fill my refrigerator. Tonight while washing dishes we listened to James Brown's Tighten Up and after that Ella Fitzgerald's rendition of Summertime. Boo told the professor, "Music makes us live."

After a full weekend and a full day, I am tired. In the words of James Brown, it's time for me to "make it mellow." Good night and sleep tight, friends.
