First Fall Mornings

There's a blessed shift taking place. The days are getting shorter; twilight comes earlier than I expect. The air feels cool and dry, with maybe just a hint of woodsmoke now and then. My summer-weary spirit feels relieved. A cool front moved in this weekend; of course we opened the windows. The breezes blew through the house and ruffled the curtains. I savored the warmth of my tea while listening to the chimes play on the clock tower downtown, and the train whistle as it blew through town. I thought about how much I love our first fall'ish mornings. Russet, crackly, brisk days are coming.
