He's hooked!

The professor was out of town for a few days earlier this week. When he arrived home he brought with him The Dangerous Book for Boys by Conn Iggulden and Hal Iggulden for our family to enjoy. What a treat for a houseful of curious and active young men!

Essentially the Dangerous Book is a practical guide to learning how to do all things boys, young and old, have historically enjoyed. It includes plans for building a tree house, true stories of bravery and courage, how to tie knots, a guide to identifying bugs, the history of catapults, how to be a gentleman, paper football instructions, how to fold a great paper airplane, and the list goes on. Boo is charmed! He buried his nose in this book yesterday afternoon, enjoying the illustrations, and by the end of the day had plans to build his own go-cart and to operate a cannon someday.

Why is this book called the Dangerous book? In a computer, tv, and video game age it challenges young men to get up and out, to explore, to build, to create, to become adventurers, to sieze the day.

I anticipate with excitement the thrills and adventures that this book will bring to our boys as they grow older. I hope that it will feed their desire to learn, to try new things, to experience and create adventure. I hope that it opens their imaginations wide and helps them to realize that there is so much more to life when they try new and exciting things. One thing that I love about this book is that it can be a tool in building relationships between father and son, brothers, and friends.

For anyone who has a young man in their life -- be it a son, grandson, nephew, or friend -- I heartily recommend The Dangerous Book for Boys!
